OptiSynx is a new technology company based in Cambridge, UK developing the next generation solid state Stratum 1 frequency standards. Time and frequency standards are extensively used throughout telecommunications and IT networks. With OptiSynx technology customers of accurate time and frequency sources are finally able to obtain what they have been wanting for a long time - a clock of sufficient accuracy that has a low initial cost, low cost of ownership, long lifetime, low maintenance, low power consumption and is robust at the right price point.
Up until now, due to the cost and complexity of high accuracy clocks, time has been cascaded from primary reference clocks through networks to increasingly less accurate clocks of the right price point. This sets up a requirement for constant, regular resynchronisation of all the low cost local oscillators throughout the multiple layers of the entire network. Not only are many applications reaching the point where the errors introduced by transmitting time too large, but with the introduction of next generation packet networks there is no longer any easy way to continue transmitting time through networks. Having stand-alone, synchronised, local accurate clocks solves this problem once and for all.
