The OptiSynx Stratum 1 frequency standard is built around a patent-pending Tera-Converter- a low cost, solid state terahertz (THz) frequency converter based on existing semiconductor technology.
The superior properties of materials operating in the THz region are already well known, but until very recently the down-conversion of these very frequencies was impossible outside of the laboratory. OptiSynx solid state THz frequency conversion solves this problem and enables low cost, stand alone and reliable Stratum 1 frequency standards to be built. The stability and accuracy comfortably exceed all forms of existing frequency standards (including rubidium and crystal oscillators) and is comparable to existing caesium atomic clocks but with orders of magnitudes improvement on cost, size, reliability, enabling new applications not previously considered.
